Getting ready for Golf Season

Spring is here, and for many people that means just one thing: golf season! That’s right- the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and golfers everywhere are shaking the dust off of their bag of clubs and getting ready to hit the links. Before you tee off for the first time of the year, here are some tips to help you get back into the swing of things (pun definitely intended) and prepare for golf season 2017!

Get Your Golf Mojo Back- To quote the Beatles, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter- don’t beat yourself up if you feel like you’ve lost your touch at first. Getting into the groove of chipping and pitching can be tough your first time out of the season. All you need to do is practice a bit by making small swings with your club in one hand at a time, and the feeling will come back like it never left in the first place.

Find Time to Practice– Before you sign up for that tournament or set up a tee time with your boss, it’s a good idea to practice a bit on your own. Find time to head to the golf course solo for a two-ball scramble, which means dropping a second ball to try the same swing, so you can hone your skills and ramp up your game for the next big golf event.

Clean your Grips– Giving your grips a little bath is as easy as scrubbing them with a wet, soapy towel. Not only will your clubs feel almost brand new in your hand, but they will look a lot better too.

Get a Club Fitting– Heading into the new season, it’s a good idea to have a pro check your lie and loft angles with a club fitting. Experts say you should get a putter fitting first and wait until a few weeks into the season to go for the full club fitting, as this will give you time to get your swing back to its usual rhythm.

Get Your Stretch On- Many golfers make the mistake of stretching at the wrong time- or not at all- before hitting the links. While you should save your long-hold stretches for after the round, you should also get yourself warm prior to teeing off by taking a brisk walk with weights, or by doing some jumping jacks.
